Injuries and evacuation
The injured adults included the driver and an instructor who was inside the facility. One child suffered more serious injuries than the other people hurt, but all five were expected to recover. FOX 35 Orlando reported that first responders described the injuries as not life-threatening.123
WESH 2 reported that the three children taken to hospital were all four years old. The people inside the building were spread between rooms when the vehicle struck; some were in a room other than the one hit by the vehicle.124
Accounts given to FOX 35 described children calling for help and people assisting with their evacuation. A nearby resident named Ana said she stepped outside and heard children crying out for assistance.3
Akeyya Luckett, who worked at a neighboring daycare, told FOX 35 that parents and bystanders helped get children out of the building. Describing the children arriving at the neighboring center, she said: "When the kids came into the center, they’re all panicking and asking where their mom was."3
Investigation and building damage
The vehicle was identified as a 2003 Honda CR-V. According to FOX 35, the driver lost control, crossed the median and passed through oncoming traffic before striking the daycare. The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating what caused the crash and described the scene as active.123
Reports differed on the driver's age and the crash time. KSTE and News Talk 1090 described the driver as a 71-year-old man and placed the crash at about 3:30 p.m. WESH reported that the driver was 79, while FOX 35 gave a time of about 3 p.m.1234

Why it matters
For European readers, the immediate significance is the harm to children and adults at a childcare facility and the loss of access to the damaged building. The reports establish those consequences, but the cause remained under investigation.123
