Harry Kane signs Bayern Munich contract through 2029

Harry Kane, England’s record goalscorer, has signed a contract keeping him at Bayern Munich in Germany until 2029, the BBC and the Guardian reported on 5 November 2026. The deal comes after the striker received the Ballon d’Or as the top men’s footballer in the world.¹²

A longer stay in Munich

The Guardian reported that Bayern announced the extension without releasing its financial terms. It cited German media reports describing the agreement as the largest financial commitment in a contract in the club’s history; that assessment was not accompanied by disclosed figures.²

Kane explained his decision in terms of his life at the club and in Munich. “My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay,” he said. According to the BBC, his previous four-year agreement had entered its final 12 months.¹

The striker joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023. He has since scored 156 goals in 161 competitive appearances, with two Bundesliga titles among his honours. The Guardian also credited him with helping Bayern win a DFB Cup, while the BBC reported three consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot awards.¹²

Scoring records and recognition

According to the Guardian, Kane reached 100 Bundesliga goals in September after 98 games, taking 31 fewer appearances than Dieter Mueller’s previous benchmark. The newspaper reported that he was the first English Ballon d’Or winner for 25 years and Bayern’s first since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.²

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund described Kane as “a team player, a leader, the best all-round striker in the world”. His assessment accompanied an extension that, according to the BBC, runs out shortly before Kane’s 36th birthday.¹²

England and the Premier League

The BBC framed the agreement as reducing the prospect of Kane returning to pursue Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record. Kane scored 213 league goals in 320 Tottenham appearances, leaving him 47 behind Shearer’s total of 260, according to the broadcaster.¹

For England, Kane has 91 goals in 125 appearances. The BBC reported that his Bayern deal will continue past Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland before expiring less than 12 months ahead of the 2030 World Cup.¹²

Former England striker Chris Sutton told the BBC that Kane could continue for several more years, subject to fitness. Sutton also said Euro 2028 should be within his reach and judged that no emerging English striker matched his effectiveness.¹
