What's new

  • Middle East Eye reported two Palestinian deaths in Gaza and the West Bank on Oct 4.
  • Israeli shelling reportedly killed a Palestinian northwest of Khan Younis on Oct 4.
  • Israeli forces reportedly killed Raafat Khairi Ahmed Abu Khalil near Tulkarm on Oct 4.

An Israeli drone strike killed a Palestinian man and wounded three others in southern Gaza on Oct 1, while Israeli settlers fatally shot another Palestinian during a raid in the occupied West Bank that day, according to Al Jazeera. Further deadly Israeli attacks in Gaza and the West Bank were reported through Oct 4.23

Strike on displaced Palestinians

Al Jazeera reported that the drone struck a tent housing displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis. It identified the man killed as 42-year-old Tamer al-Hamayda and said he was taken dead to Nasser Medical Complex. Three other people were wounded, the outlet reported.2

Al Jazeera said that, in a separate Oct 1 incident, Israeli forces carried out extensive demolitions of structures to the east of Gaza City's al-Tuffah area. The Gaza Health Ministry reported eight deaths and 26 wounded people during the preceding 24 hours.2

Settler raid in Yasuf

Israeli settlers shot dead 51-year-old Mashhour Yassin and wounded his nephew during a raid on Yasuf in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reported. Jumaa Abdel Fattah, the town's mayor, said the assailants came from Havat Anton, which the source described as an Israeli settlement established in July. Israeli forces allegedly stopped an ambulance during the attack, took its key and threw it aside.2

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Yassin's killing as occurring “in a crime that reflects clear coordination between the settlers and occupation forces.” That assertion was an allegation by the ministry and was not independently confirmed in the dossier.2

Further deaths reported

On Oct 2, medics said an Israeli airstrike on an apartment building in Gaza City killed at least four Palestinians, The Straits Times reported. The outlet said the Israeli military had not immediately commented on that strike. Middle East Eye later said an Oct 3 attack hit housing in an apartment development on the western side of Gaza City, killing one Palestinian and injuring several more.13

Middle East Eye also reported an Israeli drone strike in Beit Lahia that killed one Palestinian and wounded several others on Oct 3. It said Israeli forces shot another Palestinian near the western roundabout and that a separate drone attack wounded several people in Gaza City. According to the outlet, at least six Palestinians had been killed in Israeli attacks that Saturday.3

Middle East Eye reported that Israeli forces killed Raafat Khairi Ahmed Abu Khalil, 41, on Oct 4 at the Anab checkpoint, located east of Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank. The outlet also said Israeli shelling killed another Palestinian northwest of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.3

Ceasefire under strain

The Gaza ceasefire took effect in October 2025 and was brokered by the United States, according to the reports. The Straits Times said negotiators had not settled terms for Hamas to disarm or for Israel to withdraw its troops. Israel says Hamas has been rebuilding its arsenal and carrying out attacks in breach of the ceasefire; Hamas denies those claims and accuses Israel of weakening the agreement.13

Since the ceasefire began, Gaza health officials say Israeli fire has killed no fewer than 1,400 Palestinians. Al Jazeera reported 1,439 deaths, 5,052 injuries and the recovery of 834 bodies from beneath rubble. Israel says militants in Gaza have killed four of its soldiers over the same period.12

Why it matters

The deaths were reported under a ceasefire that began in October 2025 and that The Straits Times said was brokered by the United States. For European readers following the agreement, the reports underscore that its central issues–including Hamas's disarmament and an Israeli troop withdrawal–remain unresolved.123
