Israeli Strikes Kill Palestinians in Gaza as Ceasefire Violations Reported

Israeli forces carried out a series of strikes across the Gaza Strip between Sept 27 and Sept 30, killing Palestinians in Gaza City, Nuseirat, al-Nasr and other areas, according to multiple outlets citing Palestinian officials, though the precise death toll over the period is disputed, ranging from two to eight depending on the source.¹⁷³²

Strikes in Gaza City and Nuseirat

Two separate Israeli strikes on Sept 28 left at least two Palestinians dead, officials told both The Straits Times and NBC News. In Gaza City, one strike struck the roof of a building, killing a woman and injuring her husband along with several others, and a separate strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp left another woman dead and additional people injured. The Israeli military said it had "struck a militant in Nuseirat," without giving further details.¹⁷

Earlier, on Sept 27, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the bodies of seven killed residents had been brought to Gaza hospitals, with 38 wounded receiving treatment, most of them from the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood and the Nuseirat refugee camp. In a separate account, Middle East Eye put the day's toll from dawn onward at a minimum of four Palestinians dead and 12 injured across Gaza, among them someone shot near Tuwam, north of Gaza City, and a man in Khan Younis who succumbed to gunfire injuries sustained earlier.⁴⁶

Deadly strikes on Sept 30

Further strikes on Sept 30 killed additional Palestinians, though reported tolls again diverged. An Israeli drone strike hit the Halawa displaced persons camp north of Gaza City, killing two people and wounding eight, according to TRT World and presstv.co.uk. Another drone strike, this one hitting Al-Nafaq Street within al-Tuffah, left one Palestinian dead, and a further strike on an apartment in al-Nasr took two more lives. Witnesses said an Israeli loitering munition circled overhead before the al-Nasr strike.⁵²

According to local sources, the pair who died in the al-Nasr strike were Izz al-Din al-Beik and Muhannad Abu Foul. Israeli officials described al-Beik as a commander of Hamas's northern Gaza brigade. In another incident, a Palestinian was fatally shot by Israeli fire on Salah al-Din Street close to Deir al-Balah, while Rania Saada succumbed to injuries from a previous Israeli strike on displacement tents in al-Mawasi. The Russian news agency TASS, citing the Health Ministry, reported eight deaths on Sept 30 in total, including three from shelling at Halawa camp and further deaths in air raids on al-Nasr and drone strikes on a clinic and al-Tuffah.²⁵³

Disputed tolls since the ceasefire

A US-brokered ceasefire took effect in October 2025, but strikes have continued, with casualty figures since then varying by source. According to Gaza's government media office, Israeli forces breached the ceasefire on 5,147 occasions, leaving 1,421 Palestinians dead and 4,983 wounded, with a further 198 people detained or taken. The Palestinian Health Ministry gave a separate figure of 1,422 killed and 4,996 wounded since the truce began. Other reporting put the toll at 1,415 killed and 4,953 wounded, or at least 1,400 killed, according to different outlets.²³¹

Total death tolls since the start of the war in October 2023 also differ across sources. The Palestinian Health Ministry figure cited by TASS and presstv.co.uk put the toll at 74,016 killed and 175,068 injured. Middle East Eye reported 74,023 killed and 175,111 wounded, with 834 bodies recovered from rubble since the ceasefire began and thousands more believed still buried. The Straits Times cited a figure of more than 73,000 killed, a claim disputed by NBC News reporting on the same events.³²⁶¹

Humanitarian conditions

Gaza's health system remains under strain, with 26 of the territory's 38 hospitals reported to have ceased operations. The UN humanitarian agency OCHA said risks were intensifying as winter approached. Wounded reported in recent strikes included women and children.⁴³
